(1167-1169) The Norman Invasion Part III, The Conquest Begins

This podcast looks at the first Normans to arrive in Ireland, in a chapter often forgotten by the history books. These mercenaries accompany Diarmait McMurrough who returned to Ireland in 1167  to pave the way for the larger forces of Strongbow.

These Norman warriors led by Robert FitzGodibert, quickly realised that the Gaelic Irish were not going to be a pushover.

Rory O’Connor, perhaps the most powerful Gaelic King in Irish history, mustered his armies and marched to meet them.
